Winter 2008 Group Classes

Enrollment is limited to 6 for all classes except for the Introduction to Classical Guitar, in which enrollment is limited to 4 students. A minimum of 3 students must enroll in each course for it to be offered.

Registration Fee: There is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $35.00 for all new students (group or private).

Beginner Guitar Classes
Learn the fundamental skills of guitar playing, including basic chords, strumming, rudiments of music theory and reading, and single-note playing through the vehicle of rock, pop, and folk tunes from the 60's to the present. Our beginner classes to provide you with a solid foundation that will serve you well wherever your musical goals take you.

 

Beginner Guitar

For the absolute beginner.

10 weeks, Mondays 6:30-8:00 Beginning January 21st. $350

Advanced Beginner Guitar

For students who have taken Beginner Guitar or know a few open position chords and some very basic guitar concepts. Call our office at (212) 757-3255 for placement assistance.

10 weeks, Thursdays 6:30-8:00. Beginning January 24th. $350

Practical Music Theory

Learn the basic concepts of music theory applicable to all styles of music. Helpful for songwriting, improvisation, composition and much more. Topics include rhythm and notation, scale and chord theory, triads, 7th chords, modes, pentatonic scales and more. A hands-on class for players of all instruments that want to better understand their instrument and learn to speak the essential language of music.

10 weeks, Tuesdays 7:00-8:30. Beginning January 22nd. $350

Intro to Jazz Guitar

Learn the essential scales, arpeggios and techniques of jazz . Hands-on with lots of playing. Other topics covered include practice techniques, finding your own identity on your instrument, overcoming obstacles, developing good habits, setting goals and furthering the enjoyment and progress of playing, listening to and study of music. Techniques can be applied to all styles, and one needn't consider themselves a 'jazz guitarist' to attend, although an openness to jazz is important.

10 weeks, Wednesdays 8:00-9:30. Beginning January 23rd. $350

Intro to Classical Guitar

Learn the essential techniques of classical guitar. Proper playing position, right and left hand techcnique, reading and repertoire will all be discussed in this hands on class for players new to the style of classical guitar.

Rock/Blues Lead Guitar Workshop

Intermediate. Learn the essential scales, arpeggios, and techniques of rock and blues lead guitar playing. Hands-on, with lots of playing.

10 weeks, Saturdays 1:00-2:30. Beginning January 26th. $350

Rhythm Guitar Workshop

Learn about different rhythms and strum patterns that form the basis of a variety of styles. Pick and fingerstyle techniques will be discussed as well as chord voicings and part playing.

Private Lessons

What We Teach

We offer private instruction to students of all ages and all levels in the following:

·     Guitar, bass, piano, voice, strings, winds, drums, digital recording and more!

     Jazz, classical, rock, blues, flamenco, Brazilian, r&b, funk, world beat, metal, pop, fingerstyle, country

·     Improvisation, songwriting, audio engineering, music theory, ear training, composition and performance

Rates

All lessons are one hour long, except for voice lessons which last 45 minutes.

Registration Fee: There is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $35.00 for all new students (group or private).

Lessons must be paid for in full before scheduling.

Lessons for young children can be pro-rated from the above packages for 30 or 45 minutes.

Lessons are non-refundable and must used within one year of the date of purchase.

Choosing a Teacher

You can check our faculty list and decide for yourself, or one of our experienced staff members can briefly interview you and suggest a teacher that will best suit your needs.

We can arrange for you to meet or talk with any teacher before you enroll.

You are always free to switch teachers at any time or study with more than one teacher at once.

Scheduling

We have teachers available Monday through Saturday, daytime and evenings.

You must have lessons on account in order for a teacher to reserve a time slot for you, and in order for us to reserve a room for your lesson.

Lessons are scheduled directly with your teacher subject to confirmation by the school office. 

Cancellation Policy

Private lessons may be changed or canceled with one week's notice. Lessons cancelled with less than a week's notice will be charged to your account, but you may have a makeup lessons within the same week if your teacher has a time available that works for both of you.

Lessons are good for one year from the purchase date.

Ensembles

All Acoustic Guitar Orchestra

Designed for intermediate to advanced students who play fingerstyle guitar. The orchestra meets weekly and plays arrangements of a diverse repertoire ranging from Baroque to Tango to Brazilian. Public performances twice a year. Directed by Tali Roth.

Wednesdays 7:00-8:30. $425 per 10 week block + one time $35 registration fee for new students.

The ensemble is ongoing, so you may register at any time.

Evening Ensemble Classes

Offered on an ongoing basis, evening ensemble classes are given in Jazz, Blues and Rock for guitar, keyboards, bass, and voice. Students are interviewed and matched up with others depending on level and style. Class size depends on the musical style of the ensemble. All sessions are 2 hours in length.

Fees:

How to Register

You can register online for any of our classes or workshops by clicking here.

You can register by phone at (212) 757-3255 with any major credit card. In addition to the class fee, new students will be charged a one-time $35 registration fee.

You may register in person at our office M-Th 12-8, Fri 12-6, Sat 11-3; we accept cash, money orders, debit cards, and all major credit cards. If you wish to pay by check, you must allow one week for the check to clear before the start of class.

Class size is limited; register early to be sure to get a space.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Just as in a college course, there are no make-ups for missed group classes. If you call and let us know that you can’t make a class, the instructor will be happy to tape the class for you and make sure you get any material that was handed-out.

In the event that we cancel a class, all students will be notified by the first day of classes. If we are unable to place you in an alternative course, we will give you a full refund of the class fee (registration fees are non-refundable, but if you sign up for a future class you won't have to pay it again).
